HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to the game against St. Francis (Ill.) on Friday, the Panthers came out super aggressive on offense. In the opening 20 minutes the only offense stats were by Davenport, tallying four corner kicks and two shots. The first true scoring opportunity came in the 26
th minute when
Alayna Hilgendorf fired a shot off the post. Over the next three minutes a barrage of shots from
Roheema Bennett,
Allison Luurtsema and Zayan couldn't find the back of the net. The Eagles somehow found a way to go into halftime tied 0-0 with Davenport.
In the second half Davenport converted on an offensive opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. Zayan dribbled down the field, split a defender and scored the ball from 10 yards out. It was the freshman's first career goal and proved to be the game winner. Davenport never let off the gas offensively, tallying five more shots on net before the final whistle blew. The shots on goal difference told the story of this game, a solid performance by the Davenport defense and an offense that made it count when they needed to.
