Davenport goes 1-1 over the weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers were scheduled to play three games over the weekend, but a weather setback held Davenport instead to only two games. Davenport played Sault College, who is not an ACHA team, and hosted Lindenwood University-Belleville. The Panthers skated all around Sault College for the 7-2 win and fell to the Lynx 6-1. Laken Kunz scored a hat trick against Sault College and assisted on two other goals.
 
Game 1 (Saturday, January 27)
Final Score: Davenport 7, Sault College 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Courtney Mulligan scored the initial goal for DU just under five minutes into the first period, assisted by Jaiden Forrest. Sault College responded with a goal a little under two minutes later to tie the game 1-1. Again, Mulligan scored and gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead after the first period.
-The Panthers started to pull away in the second period, outscoring Sault College 3-1. Kunz started her scoring frenzy with a goal in the eighth minute of the period to give Davenport a 3-1 lead and would eventually be the game winning goal. Sault College scored their last goal of the game in the 16th minute of the period, cutting the Panthers lead down to 3-2. Kunz and Tori Dubuc scored back to back goals in the 17th minute of the period to put Davenport up 5-2 heading into the final period.
-In the third period Kunz completed her hat trick just 67 seconds into the period and Lexie Boydston added onto their lead with a goal later on.
-Kunz led all scorers with three goals.
-Amanada Ballestero assisted on three goals.
 
Game 2 (Sunday, January 28)
Final Score: Davenport 1, Lindenwood University-Belleville 6
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 5-15, Lindenwood 17-5-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Lynx took control of the opening period, scoring the lone goal and hold Davenport scoreless.
-In the second period Davenport scored their first goal of the game, but it came after two more goals by the Lynx. Boydston scored the goal, assisted by Mulligan.
-Lindenwood University-Belleville scored three unanswered goals in the final period to close the game.
-Boydston scored the lone goal for DU and Mulligan had the only assist.
-Julia Gaynor played all 60 minutes in net.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers play a mini-series against the University of Michigan on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday game will be a home game for Davenport in the Patterson Ice Center.
