HAMMOND, Ind. - The Davenport women's tennis pulled out a 4-3 win over Purdue Northwest in GLIAC action on Saturday (Oct. 6). It was the team's first win of the fall and snapped a four-match losing streak. The Panthers were able to field a full six spots in the singles and doubles lineup in this one.
Davenport took two of the three in doubles to earn a point.
Hannah Murphy and
Adeline Nelson got a 6-2 win at one doubles.
Vladislava Shumilova and
Steph Ritson also got a 6-0 win at three doubles.
Nelson took care of Lena Van Bergen at one singles by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Bruna Ralheta also got a win at three singles by a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Pia Schmedding. The clinching point for the Panthers came at two singles. Murphy and Giulia Castiglioni dueled to a set each as Murphy lost 6-3 in the first set and then won 6-4 in the second set. Castiglioni then took a 4-0 lead in the third set but Murphy rallied to win the next six games to take the third set at 6-4.
