Panthers earn weekend sweep over Grand Valley State

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport looked to get back into the win column against the Lakers in a West Michigan showdown. The first two periods were extremely similar. DU and GVSU each scored a goal in the first and second period and also had 11 shots on net each in both periods.
-Grand Valley State opened the scoring at 15:16 of the first as Randy Stoever put the biscuit in the back of the net with assists from Thomas Luzynski and Lucas Little. The Panthers answered just 27 seconds before the end of the first as Trevor Murray scored with assists from Evan Carroll and Tyler Majewski.
-Matthew Schaumburger gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead at 11:06 of the second period as Little and Luzynski got their second assists of the game. Carroll tied the game at 15:53 with assists from Spencer Anderson and Jeff Rahilly.
-The Panthers got the first two goals in the third period compliments of Justin Vantine (2:40) and Harry Newton (6:27). Newton's game-winning goal was assisted by Josh Uzzell and Adam Hulsey. Tommy Carey cut the lead to 4-3 at the 17:28 mark as Little picked up his third assist.
-Drake Deering stopped 26 of 29 shots for the Panthers to get the win in net. DU finished 0-for-5 on the power play while GVSU went 0-for-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Lakers came back with a vengeance on Saturday as they outshot the Panthers 38-18 on DU's home ice. However, the Panthers made the most of their 18 shots in a 4-2 win to complete the weekend sweep.
-Grand Valley State had the lone goal of the first period off the stick of Trevor Zenas at 12:58.
-GVSU led 2-0 at the 12:34 mark as Luzynski scored with an assist from Zach Resnick. Davenport then turned up the intensity and scored the last four goals of the contest.
-Vantine scored just 19 seconds after Luzynski's goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. Jacob Demeter tied the game at 15:39 from Jessee Game and Tyler Jaenicke.
-DU's Rahilly scored the game-winner at 1:05 of the third period from Connor Seymour. Seymour then added an insurance goal on the power play at 5:00 from Marc Rotondo and Carroll. DU had just three shots on goal in the period but capitalized on their chances. Deering made 36 saves in net for DU to get the win.

Davenport will face Rowan University on Friday, January 11th at 4:00 p.m. The game will take place in Oxford, Ohio.
