Davenport earns 24-21 win at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Panthers notched their second straight of scoring 20 or more goals and winning the game. Davenport went to Embry-Riddle, who had an undefeated 3-0 record coming into the game, and walked away with a 24-21 victory. Taylor Ries and Ryann Deuel were on the forefront of the Panthers offense, each recording nine points in the game. Ries scored five goals and assisted on four, while Deuel notched six goals and assisted on three. Davenport won the draw control battle 28-18.

How It Happened
The Panthers made things happen offensively in the first period, scoring an impressive 16 goals in the 30-minute period. After a goal by the Eagles with 22:40 go in the period the game was tied 4-4. Davenport proceeded to to score seven unanswered goals over a six-minute stretch. During the seven goal stretch six different Panthers scored, providing a tough task for the Eagles to cover so many players who are a scoring threat. Embry-Riddle made a couple runs of their own and cut the Panthers lead down to 12-9 later on in the period. Davenport ended the period on a 4-2 run and held a five goal advantage at halftime.
 
In the second period Davenport brought their lead up to seven with just over 20 minutes to play in regulation. The Eagles started chipping away at DU's lead throughout the rest of the period. The lead was cut down to two with 8:24 after the Eagles scored four straight goals. Down the stretch Davenport got the defensive stops they needed. The biggest defensive stand came with 2:49 to play, the Panthers held Embry-Riddle scoreless from that mark on. Aaliyah Miller scored a security goal with 1:44 to play, putting Davenport up three goals.

Up Next
The Panthers completed their Florida trip, going 2-1 and averaging just over 18 goals per game. Davenport has one more non-conference game before they hit their GLIAC schedule. The Panthers will play at Findlay on Sunday, March 4.
