Panthers complete rigorous three match weekend

The Panthers, who haven't competed since back on March 17, took on three NAIA schools over the weekend. Davenport traveled down to Marion, Ind. to play Indiana Wesleyan and the University of Northwester Ohio, before coming back to Grand Rapids to host Lawrence Tech University. The Panthers struggled in all three matches, only earning two points the entire weekend. Davenport fell to Indiana Wesleyan 7-1, lost to UNOH 5-0, and were defeated by LTU 8-1.
 
Match 1 | Friday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m.
Final score: Davenport-1 | Indiana Wesleyan University-7

Doubles Competition
Davenport won their lone point of the day in doubles. In first doubles Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson crushed their opponents 8-2. Bridget Barrett and Sophie Gossett fell 8-2 in second doubles. The Panthers defaulted in the final doubles match.
 
Singles Competition
The Panthers went zero for six in singles. Ritson lost 6-2 and 6-1, while Nelson fell 6-4 and 6-1. In third singles Barrett lost 6-2 and 6-1. Davenport defaulted in fifth and sixth singles, while Gossett's match in fourth singles went unfinished.

Final score: Davenport-0 | University of Northwestern Ohio-5

Doubles Competition
The doubles matches were short lived against UNOH. The first and seconds doubles matches went unfinished, while DU defaulted in third doubles.
 
Singles Competition
Ritson put up the best fight in singles, she lost 6-4 and 6-2 in first singles. Nelson and Barrett had similar scores, they both fell 6-2 and 6-1. In fourth singles Gossett lost 6-1 in both sets.
 
Match 3 | Sunday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m.
Final score: Davenport-1 | Lawrence Tech University-8
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: DU (5-14) | LTU (16-8)
 
Doubles Competition
The duo of Ritson and Nelson prevailed in first doubles against the Blue Devils. The two won 8-1 over Sabrina Mateos and Anusha Varudandi. Barrett and Gossett fell in second doubles, while DU defaulted in third doubles.
 
Singles Competition
Ritson lost 6-4 and 6-2 in first singles and Nelson fell in two sets in second singles. Barrett and Gossett each took won four games in one of their sets, but both lost in two sets. Ashley Medcoff competed for the first time this season and lost 6-2 and 6-0 in fifth singles.
 
Up Next
Davenport has one more match scheduled for their 2017-18 season. The Panthers host Cornerstone University on Tuesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
