GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The top moment of the 2017-18 athletic calendar belongs to the men's soccer team. After a fourth place finish in the regular season of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Panthers stormed through the GLIAC Tournament to open eyes and capture the postseason crown. It was the first team championship at Davenport during the first season in the GLIAC. The men's soccer team was also the only DU team this season to win a GLIAC regular season or tournament championship.
DU capped off a 12-6-1 record with three straight wins to capture the tournament. After a regular season finale loss to Purdue Northwest, the Panthers got revenge in the opening round of the tournament at home with a 3-1 win. The Pride got on the board first in the 22nd minute, but the Panthers responded with three straight goals.

The semifinals was the game of the season for Davenport at top-seeded Northwood. The 22nd-ranked Timberwolves scored first in the ninth minute and held Davenport back into halftime. Shrimpton scored the first of his two goals in the 70th minute to tie the game.
Stephen Carroll scored less than three minutes later for the game-winning tally. Shrimpton sealed it in the 83rd minute as a stunned Timberwolves team saw there NCAA postseason hopes dashed in the loss.
Despite DU not being able to qualify for NCAA postseason play due to provisional membership, they came out in the final against Saginaw Valley State and played a defensive gem in sloppy conditions in Midland. The Cardinals had a 6-4 edge in shots on goal for the match but an unlikely hero emerged for DU. Freshman
Noah Fetterolf scored just his second goal of the season in the 43rd minute on his only shot on goal for the day. The team was led in the tournament by all-tournament performers
Aaron Orban,
Cam Cavanagh,
Brogan Shrimpton and MVP
Stephen Carroll. The Panthers did a masterful of keeping the lead in the second half as the Cardinals threw everything they could at them. SVSU finished the match with 15 shots including six shots on goal as Orban saved all six shots including a few highlight reel saves.
