HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were eager to open the 2018 season and Davenport was able to catch the Bulldogs offside three times in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Panthers got an early chance for a goal when Zayan received a pass from
Imanie Richards and carried the ball three quarters length of the field before firing a shot at the goalie. The next scoring opportunity for Davenport came 19 minutes into the game when the Panthers were awarded a free kick just outside of the right corner of Truman's goalie box. Sophomore
Ashlyn Skidmore took the shot and placed it towards the left side of the net, but the goalie stepped in front for the save. Davenport went into halftime tied 0-0 with the Bulldogs.
The Panthers opened up with a couple shots in the second half by
Alex Prout and
Alayna Hilgendorf. Then
Katherine Steiner had one of the better looks in the game, she gathered a pass that went over everyone's head and fired a shot that the Bulldog keeper saved. Between the 61
st minute and the 66
th minute the Bulldogs scored two goals to take a 2-0 lead. Following the two goals by Truman State, the Panthers only had one more scoring opportunity.
