Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Panthers eliminated from GLIAC Tournament 3-2 by Saginaw Valley State

Miguel Flores and Matt Whelan each had a goal for DU (10-8-1)

KENOSHA, Wis. - The third time facing Saginaw Valley State would be a challenge for the men's soccer team and in the end a few momentum shifts led to a 3-2 loss against the Cardinals in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. The Panthers never had the lead and tried to claw back on different occasions. The loss will conclude the season at 10-8-1 and DU saw a seven-win improvement this season and finished third in the conference regular season.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Much like the last meeting between the teams, the Cardinals scored early in the third minute. Brady Walker notched his fifth of the season after a turnover in DU's defensive end. Walker beat Joshua Doupe to the low right from about 20 yards.
- The Panthers tied things up in the 30th minute as Miguel Flores scored his fifth of the season with an assist from Daire O'Riordan.
- After halftime, the Cardinals scored twice to take a 3-1 lead. Connor Rutz, the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, scored in the 54th minute with assists to Gabriello Calamita and Kairo Coore. Coore then got a goal himself in the 64th minute as Calamita also assisted on that goal.
- It took just 19 seconds for the Panthers to climb back within one. Matt Whelan scored his eighth of the season unassisted.
- The match took a somber turn for the Panthers when O'Riordan got his second yellow card of the game with just over seven minutes left. That left DU with just 10 men and really hindered the comeback chances. DU was carded seven different times in the game compared to just once for the Cardinals.
- Doupe made five saves for the Panthers who registered 17 shots including seven on goal.
- The game was moved to Carthage College just hours before the start of the semifinals due to unplayable field conditions at Parkside.
