ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport women's tennis team saw their brief two-match win streak come to a halt on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Augustana College (IL). The team had to deal with a small weather delay during the match as rain was in the forecast.
The doubles play saw Augustana (11-1 record) take two matches.
Adeline Nelson teaming with
Hannah Murphy fell 6-4 at one doubles.
Sophie Gossett shared the court with
Bruna Ralheta at two doubles and lost 6-2.
Doubles were counted as just one point so the Panthers still had plenty of time to make a comeback. The team trailed 3-0 at one point but got some wins to make things interesting. The one singles match between Nelson and Caitlyn Schaffer of Augustana went three sets. Nelson won the first set 6-4 but Schaffer rallied to take the next two sets by scores of 6-4 and 10-7 in the tiebreaker. Murphy won her match at two singles giving her a team-leading eight singles wins this season. She claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Annie Timm.
Gossett at five singles picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win over Morgan Bullen. The team had to forfeit four singles and six singles which proved to be costly. Ralheta also won at three singles over Zeana Badawi by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
