Panthers conclude season with loss at #8 Grand Valley State

DU was led by Toni Grace with 15 points

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The 2018-19 season came to an end on Thursday (Feb. 28) for the Davenport women's basketball team at No. 8 Grand Valley State. The Lakers turned the tide in the third quarter and finished with a 73-48 decision over the Panthers. GVSU led 19-13 after the first quarter. Neither team could find their range behind the arc combining to go 2-of-13. The Lakers shot 41.2 percent and the Panthers shot 31.3 percent.

Davenport found themselves down 39-29 at halftime but could not close the gap outscored 22-8 in the third quarter. DU went just 2-of-11 from the floor in the quarter and committed seven turnovers. The Lakers also began to establish their dominance in the paint with 14 points. Grand Valley State used a 16-4 run in the first six-plus minutes of the quarter to build a 55-35 lead.

Toni Grace led the team with 15 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. Jenna Falkenberg led the team with 11 rebounds and also recorded eight points and three blocks. Four seniors played in their final game for Davenport. Haley Gibbons scored eight points and also had seven rebounds and three blocks. Amanda Merz grabbed nine rebounds to go with five points and four assists. Leighten Koepke scored two points. Martyna Pioro scored 10 points and had two assists and two steals.
