ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Davenport took to the road again over the weekend to compete in the University of Michigan 7's Tournament. The Panthers were perfect up until the championship game. In tournament play, Davenport went up against Michigan in the semifinals. The team made sure there would be no doubt that they would make the championship game. The final score was 25-0 in favor of the Panthers. In the championship match, Davenport faced the mighty Elite Division I foe Penn State University. With no fear in their eyes, DU struck first to take an early 5-0 lead. The Panthers continued to pressure Penn State attack, but two missed tackles up the middle resulted in two quick tries before halftime. Penn State led 12-5 at the break. The second half was similar to the first; Davenport continued to put pressure on PSU's All-American filled back line with many hard hits by Veronica Overbeek and Olivia Ortiz, which disrupted any attack Penn State put together. With two minutes left, Penn State found space and beat several Panthers to pay dirt to go up 17-5. With no quit in them, the Panthers responded with a nifty Megan Bird side step around the corner for a try and an easy conversion attempt from Ortiz, cutting the Penn State lead down to five. Davenport, hungry for the win, continued to attack the Lions and had an opportunity for the win, but a low pass and miss-handled ball foiled the comeback.

"To play an elite team like that right to the final whistle really shows the character of this team. We played against one of the best teams in the country and were one pass away from victory. Could not be more proud of them!" – Head Coach Greg Teliczan.
