CALEDONIA, Mich. - The women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday night against Aquinas. The Panthers won by a score of 5-2 against the Saints. Both teams are now 1-2 overall this season.
The Panthers started the match with three doubles wins and earned one point.
Adeline Nelson teamed with
Willemien Coetzee for a 6-0 win at two doubles.
Danica Malan and
Vladislava Shumilova along with
Sophie Gossett and
Emma Philippus both won 6-2 in their doubles matches.
The top four spots in the singles lineup also picked up wins to reach five points. Coetzee was in a battle against Joska Volder at one singles. Coetzee won the first set in a tiebreaker at 7-6. Volder won 6-4 in the second set and then Coetzee claimed the super tiebreaker 14-12 to wrap up the final point.
Nelson had little trouble in a 6-3, 6-1 win at two singles over Darci TerHaar. Shumilova won 6-0, 6-1 at three singles against Kiara Berry. Gossett at four singles also won in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) versus Bailey Chouinard.
