NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Davenport University co-ed water polo team traveled to the University of Notre Dame on Saturday and Sunday to compete in its first ever matches. The Panthers took one of three matches on day one before a win on day two that salvaged the weekend split.
Notre Dame 24, Davenport 4
- As would be the case in all four of Davenport's matches,
Raheem Brown led the Panthers' offensive attack with two of the team's four goals.
- Also finding the back of the net were
Tyler Pardue and
Brandon Kraai while Tyler's brother,
Riley Pardue, and
Aubrey Mitchell each had an assist.
- Defensively,
Nicholas Smart racked up eight blocks to go with a steal and Brown also notched a takeaway.
Xavier 10, Davenport 8
- In a much closer loss, Brown was even more special with six of the team's eight scores.
- Davenport's other two goals were provided by T. Pardue and
Haley Swift while
Kathryn Ejsmont was responsible for the squad's one assist.
- Smart racked up 16 blocks and a steal while Swift tallied her first steal.
Davenport 17, Grand Valley State 9
- Davenport finally broke through as four different Panthers scored two or more times including Brown (9), T. Pardue (4), Swift (2), and Kraai (2).
- The Panthers also moved the ball much better with assists coming from Ejsmont (3),
Mitchell VanderMeer (2), R. Pardue (2), and Kraai (2).
- Smart had 11 blocks to go with a steal by T. Pardue, Swift and Brown.
Davenport 12, Notre Dame "B" 9 (EXHIBITION)
- The Panthers closed out the weekend with a dub, their second in as many showings.
- Nine of DU's 12 goals came from Brown, two were by Kraai and the other from Swift.
- Assist wise, helping the offense were T. Pardue (2) to go with one apiece from Smart, VanderMeer and Kraai.
- Defenisvely, Smart stopped 12 and Brown had two steals.
Next up, Davenport won't compete until Oct. 5-6 when it travels to Dayton, Ohio for four more matches in two days. That Saturday, Oct. 5, the Panthers will face the host Flyers at 4:40 p.m. and Miami (Ohio) at 6:50 p.m. The following Sunday will see DU matched up against Cincinnati at 9 a.m. and Notre Dame at 12:15 p.m.
