Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's tennis team hosted Illinois-Springfield and Walsh on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers fell 5-1 against UIS on Friday and 5-2 against Walsh on Saturday. The team is now 2-13 overall and have dropped six straight.
UIS and DU battled in doubles with two very tight matchups. The one doubles was dominated by the Prairie Stars 6-0 by Ashley Long and Ebony Sampson over
Danica Malan and
Willemien Coetzee. For the Panthers,
Adeline Nelson and
Vladislava Shumilova were winners at two doubles by a score of 7-5 over Maegan Flight and Kaitlyn Thornhill. The Prairie Stars took a point in doubles winning at three doubles in a tiebreak (7-6) as Jasmine Cortez and Hannah Blythe beat
Emma Philippus and
Sophie Gossett.
UIS took the first three singles matches with Nelson battling at three singles against Sampson. Sampson won in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 7-5) for a big point. Shumilova picked up a win at four singles over Thornhill by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Lillian Mouw and Blythe were not able to finish their match at the sixth spot. Mouw won the first set 7-6 and it was 5-5 in the second set when the fifth point secured the win for UIS.
The Walsh match on Saturday was a repeat in doubles as Nelson and Shumilova picked up a win 6-4 over Katharina Razum and Maria Kacalova at the two spot. In singles play, Mercedes Fernandez took care of Coetzee 6-2, 6-1 at one singles. Malan was a winner at two singles over Razum by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Kacalova and Shumilova had a good match at four singles. Kacalova would win 0-6, 7-6, 6-3 for a big point. Gossett also got a win for DU at five singles by scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 over Nicole Beidacki.
