MARQUETTE, Mich. – The last time the Panthers faced the Wildcats was back on January 23 and Davenport was held to their second lowest scoring output of the season. This time around, Davenport scored 21 more points than the previous outing, but the end result was a loss. The Wildcats earned the victory on senior day, giving Davenport their 17
th GLIAC loss of the season.
Jenna Falkenberg led the team in scoring for the sixth straight game, scoring 21 points while shooting 7/10 from the free throw line.
Scout Nelson and
Madison Jones each added 10 points, while six different players recorded an assist.
The game was within reach for Davenport entering the second half of play, trailing by five points. On a couple different possessions early in the half, the lead was only three points. With 8:35 left in the third quarter,
Courtney McInerney hit a three and Northern Michigan only led by 35-32. Over the next eight and a half minutes of play, the Wildcats outscored DU 17-11. Davenport went into the fourth quarter trailing by nine points. The lowest the lead ever got was seven in the fourth and Davenport eventually lost.
As a team, Davenport shot 50% from the three, going 9/18 and shooting 45.7% from the field. The Panthers were outscored in points in the paint, points off turnovers, and bench points in the game. Nelson led the team in rebounds with six and Falkenberg in assists with three.
Davenport travels to Grand Valley State on Thursday, February 27 for their final game of the 2019-20 season. The game will start at 6 pm.
