ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport women's tennis team got the monkey off their back on Thursday with a 7-0 win against Webber International. The Panthers picked up win number three of the season while the Warriors remain winless at 0-7.
Willemien Coetzee and
Danica Malan won 6-2 at one doubles, while
Lillian Mouw and
Emma Philippus were 6-0 winners at three doubles. DU earned the one point for winning two of the three doubles matches. Coetzee and Malan won together for the second time this season, while Mouw and Philippus picked up their first win together in three tries.
The Panthers took care of business in singles with all six wins to close out with a 7-0 victory.
Sophie Gossett needed three sets to take care of Isabelle Niehoff at four singles (6-2, 2-6, 10-4). Philippus cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at six singles over Cheyenne Cannor. It was her first win in singles.
Adeline Nelson at three singles needed little time to dispose of Svenja Koenig by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Nelson picked up her second dual match win of the season. Malan at two singles won 6-2, 6-3 against Jenna Fosdick. Malan's sixth singles win of the season leads the team. Coetzee triumphed 6-1, 6-4 at one singles over Lily-Rose Rochat. Mouw at five singles won 6-0, 6-2 over Esmeralda Fernandez.
