Senior Day sees DU shine in 4-1 win over Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 2019-20 seniors ended things in a memorable fashion with a 4-1 win over Calvin on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers never trailed en route to their 18th win of the season and with the win secured second place in the GLCHL standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers scored a pair of goals in the first period and wasn't really threatened in this game. Alyx Fonseca netted the first goal at 5:21 from Adam Goudelock. Luke Cowan added to the lead at 16:59 from Nathan Nickelson. DU was outshot 11-8 in the first period but put two goals home.

Calvin did score at 0:18 of the second period on an unassisted goal by Jacob Siebenga. It took just a few minutes later to regain a two-goal advantage as Cowan scored his second of the game from Nickelson and Walker Aurand.

The game's final goal was scored by Jason Cohan his second goal of the series with assists to Aurand and Chris Corgan at 17:14 of the third period. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Calvin finished with a 31-28 edge in shots on goal
- Both teams combined to go 0-for-7 on the power play
- DU served 20 penalty minutes compared to eight for Calvin
- Zach Janis made 29 saves to earn a win in net
- Jon Strand finished the game with 18 minutes in net and made a save

UP NEXT
The two teams will square off again for the third straight time in the GLCHL Tournament semifinals. The game will be Friday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. inside Patterson Ice Center.
