GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport University head football coach Sparky McEwen has announced that 23 student-athletes will join the Panther football team in anticipation of the 2020 season. All signings are contingent upon admission to DU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
This year's recruiting class features 23 student-athletes from seven states including Michigan (11), Florida (7), Illinois (2), California (1), Georgia (1), and Minnesota (1).
"I couldn't be more excited about this year's incoming recruiting class. It is a mixed bag of talented student-athletes who will impact our program for years to come," McEwen said. "It is without a doubt, our best recruiting effort as we continue to build our team into a GLIAC Championship caliber program. We can't wait for our recruits to join our Panther Family and start the next chapter of their academic and football careers. This class understands that it is a privilege to be a part of the Davenport University community, earn a degree and become proud Panther Alumni."

The Davenport football team finished the 2019 season with a record of 5-5 and were 3-5 in the GLIAC. They defeated NCAA DII playoff qualifier Lindenwood University and ended the season with wins against Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. The Davenport Football program has had a meteoric rise and looks to continue the trend in the fall of 2020.
