ST. CLOUD, Minn. - One of the reasons the Davenport men's soccer team has excelled this season has been their depth. That came through again on Sunday in a 1-0 win at St. Cloud State.
Tyler Welch came off the bench as just one of three subs during the game for DU and scored in the 58th minute to keep the Panthers in sole possession of first place in the GLIAC (7-2).
Welch was able to score after a rebound from a hard shot by
Daire O'Riordan. He wasted no time putting the ball back on goal from around 13 yards out for his first goal of the season. The match was controlled by the Panthers as they had 18 shots including 10 shots on goal. St. Cloud State managed just one shot on goal among their eight total shots.
Shane Marinkovich made that one save improving to 7-2 in net during his freshman campaign.
The Panthers (7-5) are back home for their final two home games during the regular season at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. They will face Northern Michigan on Friday (7:00 PM) and have senior day on Sunday against Parkside (2:00 PM).
