Panthers earn pair of wins over Aquinas and Cornerstone

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team must have had a version of deja vu this weekend as they welcomed Aquinas and Cornerstone, former Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foes. The results were identical with a pair of 4-3 wins to improve to 2-0 this season.

Aquinas came into the matchup having already played three dual matches while DU was making their dual match debut after hosting their own tournament and competing in the ITA Midwest Regional.

The dynamic duo of Jonathan Bulmer and Juan-Louis van Antwerpen cruised to a 6-1 win at one doubles over Simon Uhlen and Max Goldbeck-Lowe. Daniil Khitrou and Juan Jose Pino Contoleon teamed up at two doubles for a 6-3 win over Nicholas Klak and Joel Hancox. Elijah Wisser and Bennet Dozeman also cruised to a 6-1 win at three doubles over Brandon McEachern and Mariano Arroyo.

Bulmer won at one singles over Uhlen by scores of 6-1, 6-1. van Antwerpen won at two singles over Klak by scores of 6-2, 6-3. Juan Jose Pino Contoleon won at three singles over Goldbeck-Lowe in straight sets (6-0, 6-4). Those wins proved crucial because the Saints won in four, five and six singles.

The team then focused their attention on Cornerstone as the Golden Eagles made the short trip down Beltline and Broadmoor. The Saturday morning first serve moved the Panthers to 2-0. The highlights included Bulmer winning at one singles over Mateo Jimenez (6-2, 6-0). He and van Antwerpen also won 7-6 at one doubles. van Antwerpen also won 6-2, 6-1 at two singles over Santiago Castellanos.
