GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute thanks to
Natalia Casiello's first goal of the season, the Davenport University women's soccer team trailed Parkside, 2-1, with just under 12 minutes to play on Sunday at The Farm.
Haley Diekevers (pictured) then found the back of the net in the 79th minute for her third score of the fall to make it 2-2, which is where the score would stay the rest of the way.
Casiello scored the second goal of her career and first since her freshman season with a 24-yard strike off her left foot into the back right corner of the net. Then, the true freshman Diekevers rebounded a
Gabby Scholten shot attempt and put the ball into the back left corner with her left foot for the score and the 2-2 deadlock.
Overall, Davenport fired a total of 26 shots, including 11 shots on goal, both of which are season highs for the Panthers. Those 26 total attempts and 11 shots on net are the Panthers' most since Oct. 22, 2017 against Purdue Northwest when they had 32 and 16, respectively.
Individually, seven different players fired a shot for Davenport led by seven attempts and three on goal by Casiello as well as six attempts and four on net by Diekevers. In goal for the Panthers,
Samantha Beckles faced 17 shots and saved seven of them in 110 minutes of action.
Next up on the schedule, Davenport will be at top-ranked Grand Valley State (9-0-1, 5-0-1 GLIAC) on Friday with the opening kickoff set for 7 p.m.
