Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale

11/11/2021 11:27:00 AM

The Davenport football team will be finishing up the 2021 season on Saturday as they make the short trip to Allendale to face No. 5 Grand Valley State at Lubbers Stadium.

OPENING DRIVE
● The Panthers continue their gauntlet through the top-tier teams in the GLIAC and after playing No. 1 Ferris State last week will travel to No. 5 Grand Valley State for a 1:00 PM kickoff on Saturday in the season finale. Davenport has gone 2-3 on the road this season with wins at Walsh (10-6) and Northwood (21-14). DU is looking to snap a two-game skid and are 1-3 in season finales all-time with their last one in 2019 producing a win at Saginaw Valley State (33-23). GVSU is looking for their fourth straight win and a potential spot in the NCAA DII playoffs if they can win their ninth game of the season.
● This will be the fourth meeting between the teams and the Lakers have a 3-0 lead. The Lakers have been nationally-ranked in all three previous meetings. They won 48-0 as the No. 14 team on Sept. 9, 2017. The Panthers put a scare into them with a 19-14 loss against the No. 8 Lakers back on Oct. 20, 2018. In a driving rainstorm back on Oct. 26, 2019, the Lakers ranked No. 16 won 27-7 in Allendale.
● No. 1 Ferris State picked up a 50-14 win at Davenport last Saturday. It was the most points given up by DU in their history (55 games). DU managed six first downs and 94 yards of total offense. Jake Jensen completed his first career touchdown pass to Seth Acda in the second quarter. It was also Acda's first career touchdown catch. Nick Cain also scored his first career touchdown on a 15-yard fumble return. FSU gained 396 total yards including 236 on the ground and four scores.
● Grand Valley State has a potent offense averaging 41.6 points and 430.4 yards per game. The Lakers have scored 28 or more points in eight of their nine games this season and even their season-low of 14 points came in a win over Michigan Tech (14-9). Last week, GVSU won 62-13 at Wayne State behind GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Cade Peterson's three passing and two rushing TD's.

DAVENPORT NOTEBOOK
Bryan Plegue enters today's game with a 12-of-12 streak in extra points this season. No kicker in school history has gone perfect for a season in PAT's. Plegue also has made six field goals this season and needs one more to tie Chris Ahmed's seven back in 2018.
Jalen Robinson enters the final game with 86 tackles which is second-most in a season at Davenport. He would need 11 on Saturday to tie Brent Showers for the single-season record which he establish in the inaugural season of 2016. Robinson has recorded four double-digit tackle games this season including back-to-back weeks against Saginaw Valley (13) and Ferris State (11). His 13 tackles against the Cardinals tied a season-high when he had the same number against Truman State in the season opener.
Shaq Floyd tied his season-high with nine tackles against Ferris State. He had a season-best six solo tackles and also recorded his first interception of the season. Floyd has a total of 49 tackles in his first season with the program.
Caleef Jenkins was given a heavy workload against the Bulldogs. He set season-highs in carries (17) and rushing yards (48). He scored twice on the ground at Northwood for his first touchdowns as a Panther.
Roy Livingstone has become a steady return man in his first season with the team. Livingstone is averaging 9.1 yards per punt return on 17 chances and has also averaged 15.9 yards per kick return in 14 tries. He is second in the conference in punt return average.
