RACINE, Wis. - The top two teams will meet in the GLIAC Tournament championship after Davenport won 1-0 over Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening. Kickoff is set for 1 PM eastern time on Sunday at Pritchard Park in Racine, Wisconsin. The winner will get a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
After a loss and tie during the regular season, the Panthers had something to prove in the semifinals. They played one of their more complete matches of the season improving to 11-6-1 overall. The Cardinals end their season at 10-5-5. The Panthers took 20 shots with seven on goal compared to nine shots and five on goal by the Cardinals.
There was solid goalkeeping on both sides but the Panthers got that one tally which kept them in the tournament.
Justice Sikkema had a cross from left to right which was headed by
Matt Whelan. That header was right to senior captain
Daire O'Riordan who buried his fifth goal of the season in the 49th minute. His shot from around 10 yards out was tucked inside the left post.
Shane Marinkovich made five saves for the Panthers and was steady in his first postseason appearance. The Panthers and Rangers each won on each other's home field during the regular season and the rubber match will be intense with everything on the line.
