Panthers conclude season with a loss at No. 5 Grand Valley State

DU finished 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport football team finished the 2021 season on Saturday with a trip to No. 5 Grand Valley State. The Lakers picked up the 42-0 win over the Panthers as DU finishes 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers went with freshman Luke Niepoth at quarterback as that position has been riddled with injuries this season. Niepoth made his first start and took his first snaps as the fifth quarterback to see action this season for Davenport. Niepoth was asked to pass just six times in the contest and completed one pass for 20 yards while being sacked three times.

Davenport due to the inexperience under center rushed it 43 times for 82 yards. Seth Acda is his final game carried 16 times for a season-high 69 yards. Caleef Jenkins rushed 17 times for 32 yards. Davenport finished with 102 total yards and averaged 2.1 yards per play.

Grand Valley State made their case for a potential playoff berth with just one loss coming to No. 1 Ferris State. The Lakers finished with 449 total yards with 144 passing and 305 rushing. Cade Peterson threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns and Cal Endicott completed one pass for a score in relief of Peterson. Bryce Young-Walls led GVSU with 119 rushing yards and one score.

Bryan Plegue finished the season going 12-for-12 in extra points to become the only Panther to accomplish that feat. Jalen Robinson led the team with 15 tackles and became the single-season record holder with 101 for the season.
