Box Score 2 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It was a pair of well-played games over the weekend between two area teams as the Davenport women's hockey team went up against Aquinas. The teams tied on Friday 3-3 at Patterson Ice Center and the Saints won 2-1 on Saturday on their home ice.
Friday's contest looked grim for the Panthers as they were down 3-0 with 8:36 left in the game. Jenna Blackwell scored in the first period and Chloe Donnelly scored her first two goals of the season in the second and third period. Blackwell scored a short-handed goal at 6:22 of the first period.
The Panthers then went to work and battled back for the draw.
Morgan Pippin scored at 12:12 for her first of the season.
Adriannah Letts scored just 38 seconds later with
Sydney Butka on the assist and DU was in business. The Panthers tied the game at 18:54 as
Avery Anderson scored her first goal of the season with
Courtney Mulligan on the assist. Davenport had a chance in overtime to win it as the Saints' Gina Marzolo was called for tripping at 2:32.
The rematch on Saturday was a script flip as Davenport opened the scoring at 6:13 of the second period on a power play goal by
Alyssa Schroeder from
Julia Gaynor and Letts. The Saints equalized at 9:32 as Donnelly lit the lamp from Grace Waldo and Alyssa Buzar. Aquinas got the winner on the power play at 7:31 of the third period. Alyssa Exline had the goal with Anna Castle on the assist.
Dayna Templeton made 33 saves in net for DU on Saturday. The Panthers are now 2-6-1 overall this season.
