GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's basketball team will be hitting the road for the third and fourth time this season and the first time in GLIAC play this week. Davenport is beginning a stretch of five straight games on the road and it starts at Parkside on Thursday (6:30 PM ET) and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (2 PM ET). The Panthers dropped a pair of games at home last week against Wayne State on Dec. 2 and Saginaw Valley State on Dec. 4.

• Wayne State 58, Davenport 50 (Thursday): The defensive effort was one of the best of the season against the Warriors who finished 40.8 percent from the floor and 30 percent from the arc. The game entered the fourth quarter tied at 39 and teams were knotted up at 47 with 2:56 to play. The Warriors ended the game on an 11-3 run to take the GLIAC opener. The game featured 10 ties and four lead changes and the Panthers even led for 16:31 of game time. The fourth quarter shooting by Davenport (3-for-21) proved to be the deciding factor. Scout Nelson led the team with 13 points and notched her first double-double with 11 rebounds. Ajai Simmons added 10 points and four rebounds. Toni Grace scored eight points.
• Saginaw Valley State 68, Davenport 39 (Saturday): The Panthers ran into a talented Cardinals team that was just coming off a win at Grand Valley State on Thursday. Saginaw Valley State would not have a letdown with a convincing win. Davenport was held under 40 points for the first time since Jan. 18, 2020 at Northwood. SVSU went 11-for-24 from deep as five different players connected. SVSU led from the start scoring the first six points of the game and led 17-7 after the first quarter. SVSU went 7-of-14 from the floor in each of the first and second quarters. Davenport did outscore the Cardinals 13-11 in the fourth quarter. Loni Sales led the team with eight points in 19 minutes.
