GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team improved to 15-0 all-time against Cornerstone with a 7-0 win on Friday at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club. The Panthers are now 4-2 this season while the Golden Eagles are 3-2.
The doubles portion featured a 6-1 win by
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Juan Jose Pino Contoleon.
Frank Piana III and
Daniil Khitrou teamed up at two doubles for a 6-2 win.
Jonathan Bulmer and
Matt Leatherman completed the sweep in doubles with a 6-4 victory.
The Panthers won five of the six matches in singles in straight sets and the drama occurred at six singles. Leatherman was stretched to the brink by Jacob Stegman after he won 6-4 in the first set. Leatherman turned in around in the second set for a 6-4 win and then won 10-7 in the super tiebreaker. Khitrou also had a battle at three singles against Mateo Jimenez and won 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
