GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the GLIAC and 7-4 overall with a 5-2 win over visiting Lake Superior State on Saturday morning. The team went outdoors for the first time this season and got the best of the Lakers.
The Panthers swept the doubles and did not allow more than three games in any of the three matches.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer at one doubles won 6-2.
Frank Piana III and
Daniil Khitrou at two doubles won 6-3.
Juan Jose Pino Contoleon and
Matt Leatherman at three doubles won 6-2.
The singles matches were a different story in terms of competitiveness. Five of the six matches went to three sets and Davenport won four of those to seal the win. Khitrou at three singles split the first two sets against Krishan Taneja and then won 7-5 in the third. Contoleon at five singles won 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 over Harris Irfan Ul Haq. Juho Kantola at one singles for LSSU won 7-6 in the first set against van Antwerpen but then he turned it around 7-5, 6-2 to capture the point. Bulmer at four singles won 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 against Ali Sahibzada.
