GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a blast from the past, the men's soccer team played at the Turf Field for the first time since the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex stadium was built. The Panthers welcomed Parkside and the Rangers spoiled the party with a 3-1 win on Sunday.
The Panthers have been hit by the injury bug in recent weeks but battled to the end as they are now 3-3 during the spring with one more game left in the regular season next Sunday against Ashland.
Justice Sikkema recorded a shot on goal 20 seconds into the match but then the Rangers started to apply pressure.
Carter Selvius made back-to-back saves in the sixth minute and Parkside had several shots over the next few minutes.
George Deveau and
Daire O'Riordan each had a shot on goal in the 21st and 22nd minute as Alex Durand made the save.
Rade Novakovich scored in the 25th minute from Matteo Quintero to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The first half ended with each goalkeeper making six saves and Parkside had 16 total shots compared to eight for the Panthers.
Novakovich scored again in the 50th minute as Quintero again had an assist. The hat trick for Novakovich was completed in the 64th minute as Dejan Rokvic assisted his third goal of the match.
Ryan Zietlow broke up the shutout in the 85th minute with
Anselmo Sarabia assisting on the goal.

Yovany Duran was given a tough call red card which meant DU played with 10 men for almost 40 minutes. Selvius recorded 10 saves for the Panthers, a season high.
