ASHLAND, Ohio - For the second season in a row, the Davenport women's soccer season has come to an end with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ashland in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. Tuesday, the Eagles scored the game's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 70th minute off the foot of Tori Baker into the back right corner of the net. The seventh-seeded Panthers fall to 2-6-1 on the season while the second-seeded Eagles (8-1-1) move on to face the winner of Northwood and Northern Michigan in the semifinals on Friday.
Ashland fired 17 shots to Davenport's six including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Individually, the Panthers' six shots came from five different players including
Natalia Casiello (2 shots),
Marissa Woods (1 shot, 1 SOG),
Ashlyn Skidmore (1 shot, 1 SOG),
Madeleine Zayan (1 shot), and
Hannah Henney (1 shot, 1 SOG). Skidmore, the team's leader in shots, was held to one for just the second time this season while Zayan, second on the squad in attempts, was also held to one for only the second time this year.
In goal,
Samantha Beckles faced a season high 17 shots and saved six of them.
