Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Early Deficit Too Much to Overcome for Davenport

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Facing Grand Valley State for the third time this season, the No. 25 Davenport women's lacrosse team and No. 12 Lakers met in the finals of the 2021 GLIAC Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Grand Valley State applied the pressure early and often as it scored the game's first four goals, seven of its first eight and 12 of its first 15. Once they were ahead by nine, 12-3, the Lakers' lead was never smaller than seven after that en route to the 21-12 final score.

Davenport (11-3) spread the wealth offensively as eight different players broke into the scoring column including Maddy Haynes (2 goals), Avery Garant (2), Aaliyah Miller (2), Monique Vale (2), Ryann Deuel (1), Anna Glynn (1), Reilly Noble (1), and Brenna Knoll (1). Assist wise, Glynn led the way with three while Haynes (2), Noble (1) and Knoll (1) also contributed. Deuel paced the Panthers in both total shots with nine and and shots on goal with five.

Miller racked up a season high six ground balls, the most since her sophomore season, her and Knoll each caused three turnovers (both tied career high), and Knoll also notched seven draw controls. In goal, Grace DeRidder (9-3) got the start and played 26:09 with two saves while Tylor Baker played the rest, also with two stops to her name.

Following the game, Glynn, Jordyn Harrison, Deuel, and Amber Park were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Davenport's historic 2021 season included the following:
  • First wins against four different opponents (Tiffin, Findlay, Walsh, and Concordia-St. Paul)
  • First NCAA Top-25 ranking
  • First IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week (Glynn on April 13)
  • Program record eight players named All-GLIAC including four First Team, three Second Team and one Honorable Mention
  • First major award winners in Glynn (Freshman of the Year) and Miller (Attacker of the Year)
  • Program record five GLIAC Players of the Week
  • First GLIAC Tournament win and GLIAC Tournament finals appearance
  • Seventh 10-win season in program history
