Football (1-1)
It was a rousing road win at Walsh on Saturday in a 10-6 battle between the Panthers and Cavaliers.
Jaier Harden scored on a 17-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and the defense stopped a couple of Walsh drives in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers got to the two-yard line on the game's final play. The Panthers had a potent rushing attack gaining 272 rushing yards which is the second best yardage in school history. Four different players rushed for over 50 yards led by
Blake Daniels who had 70 rushing yards in his first collegiate start at quarterback. DU will play a non-conference game at Northern Michigan inside the Superior Dome this Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM. Davenport is 2-1 all-time against the Wildcats.
Women's Volleyball (5-3)
The Panthers went 3-1 at Walsh's Cavalier Invitational and have won three matches in a row to move two games above the .500 mark overall at 5-3. This past Friday and Saturday, Davenport fell to Mercyhurst (3-1) before defeating Daemen (3-2), Notre Dame College (3-2) and the host, Walsh (3-0), in succession. Up next on the schedule for DU is the first two of six-straight GLIAC matches to open up league play including a trip to Michigan Tech on Saturday and Northern Michigan on Sunday, both of which will begin at 2 p.m.
Men's Soccer (0-3)
Justice Sikkema recorded his first multi-goal game in Friday's 4-3 overtime defeat at Southern Indiana. DU recorded a season-high 15 shots on goal.
Gustav Moeller scored his first collegiate goal in the 44th minute. The Panthers will now begin GLIAC action and have their home opener on Friday, Sept. 17 beginning at 7:00 PM against league newcomer St. Cloud State (1-2-1).
Women's Soccer (0-4)
Davenport traveled to Florida to take on a pair of Sunshine State Conference members in Rollins on Friday and Embry-Riddle on Sunday, but fell to both by scores of 2-0 and 5-0, respectively. This week, the Panthers will begin conference play with a road showdown at Michigan Tech on Friday (7 p.m.) before hosting Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (11 a.m.).
Women's Golf
The Panthers will begin the first of six fall tournaments this weekend as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Champions of Women's Golf Tournament hosted by Ohio Dominican. The team's last competition was the GLIAC Championships during the spring where they finished fourth and qualified for Medal Match Play. The Panthers set the program 54-hole record and will look to build upon that this fall.
Cross Country
In the teams' first meet of the season at the Calvin Knight Invite on Sept. 4, the men placed 10th out of 12 teams while the women took home a sixth-place showing out of 10 squads. This week, the Panthers are in Kenosha, Wis. to compete in Parkside's Lucian Rosa Invite beginning at 12 p.m. eastern time, 11 a.m. central. Davenport last ran in this event in 2018 when the men were second of six and the women were third of eight.
Women's Tennis
The team got things going this past week at the DU Invitational alongside Ferris State and Grand Valley State.
Willemien Coetzee picked up a singles win over Morgan Waller of FSU (5-2, ret.) and Vera Griva of GVSU (6-4, 7-5).
Kumiko Yamaguchi made her debut as a Panther and also won a pair of singles matches against Marija Leko of GVSU (1-0, ret.) and Brittany Lavenant of FSU (4-6, ret.).
