The men's ACHA Division III hockey team battled with Ferris State on Sunday (Jan. 23) and Monday (Jan. 24) in a home-and-home series. The Panthers fell 5-3 at home on Sunday. The first period had the most scoring as both teams found two goals for a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes only to see the Panthers answer back.
Kevin Crawley scored at 15:06 from
Dillon Bond and
Shaid Shearer and then at 19:35 on the power play it was
Aiden Dion from
Chance Bradley and Crawley.
The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the second period as Bond scored unassisted at 6:16. The Bulldogs then got the game's final three goals. All three were at even strength and the game-winning goal was from Dylan Smith at 19:30 of the period. Ferris State outshot Davenport, 32-20, in the game and both teams were 1-of-5 on the power play.
On Monday, the Bulldogs prevailed 3-2 in overtime on their home ice.
Carter Osborn scored both goals for the Panthers coming in the first and third periods. Alec Newton scored Ferris State's first goal in the second period and John Spero tied the game with 37 seconds left in regulation. The five-minute overtime ticked just under a minute when Jourdan Schmidt scored the winner with 59 seconds left unassisted.
