GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's basketball team welcomes Purdue Northwest and Parkside this week to the Student Center. The Pride and Panthers will compete on Thursday at 6:00 PM while the Rangers and Panthers tip it off on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Senior guard
Toni Grace is fresh off a season-high 25 points at Michigan Tech last Saturday. She currently has 1,247 career points and sits in ninth place all-time at Davenport. She needs 29 more points to tie for eighth place with Carrie Grubius (2008-12).
PURDUE NORTHWEST NOTES
• These two teams played earlier this season back on Dec. 11 and the contest ventured into overtime before the Pride won 73-65. DU trailed by 11 at halftime and then came out and outscored the Pride 19-7 in the third quarter. DU managed just four points in overtime shooting 1-for-7 from the field.
Toni Grace led DU with 18 points (10-12 FT).
Lillee Gustafson added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
• Purdue Northwest has stumbled here in January with a 1-4 record. The win came against Northern Michigan on Jan. 17 at home by a final of 59-56. The Pride will be playing on the road for the first time after six straight home games and are 1-4 on the road. In their last game against Wayne State, Reagan Courier led the team with 11 points and Antreese Shelton grabbed 11 rebounds.
PARKSIDE NOTES
• Parkside had a strong showing in a 99-59 win over the Panthers back on Dec. 9. It still stands as their season high in points. DU shot 31.3 percent from the floor and 60 percent at the foul line.
Scout Nelson scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Alexis Vaughn flirted with a triple-double finishing with 11 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Rangers. Alyssa Nelson led the team with 23 points (9-11 FG).
• The Rangers are fresh off an upset of Saginaw Valley State on Saturday in Kenosha by a final of 59-57. There were four ties and three lead changes and the game came down to the final shot as Jessica Massey missed for the Cardinals at the buzzer. Nelson finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
