No. 6 Seawolves back up their ranking with two impressive wins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's ACHA Division I hockey team could not get an upset over No. 6 Stony Brook in either game on Friday and Saturday at Patterson Ice Center. DU has now dropped six straight and are 1-7 overall.

The Panthers struck first on Robert McLaughlin's first goal of the season from Zach Currie and Kristers Klavins. Currie was back on the ice for the first time this season. Stony Brook displayed a dominant second period with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. Devin Pepe scored on the power play at 2:37. Currie scored his first of the season at 19:37 from Brendan Bauer to make it 4-2 in favor of the Seawolves going into the third period.

Brandon Avezov scored his second goal of the game at 3:33 and McLaughlin scored his second of the game at 18:15 of the third period from Klavins and Jacob Boucha. The Seawolves had a 40-17 advantage in shots on goal.

Stony Brook left no doubt on Saturday by scoring the first five goals of the game en route to a 9-2 victory over DU. James Kozicki scored twice during that span for Stony Brook. Noah Bradburn scored at 15:50 of the second period for his second tally of the season with assists from Logan Davis and Tyler Majewski. 

Stony Brook scored four straight times to build a 9-1 lead. Greg Barnych had a pair of goals to complete the hat trick. Jesse Edwards also scored his first of the season on the power play at 12:18. Peter Stojcevski had his first Panther goal at 17:36 on the power play from Aidan Talsma and Klavins. Sean Andrus had a busy day stopping 42 shots for DU in net.
