SVSU Hands DU 2-1 Loss in Double Overtime of GLIAC Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Thanks to a goal from Haley Diekevers (pictured) in the 31st minute, sixth-seeded Davenport struck first against third-seeded Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC Tournament. However, the Cardinals answered with a score in the 75th minute before sealing the 2-1 decision in the 97th minute of the first overtime. The Panthers' 2022 campaign comes to an end with an overall record of 4-10-5.

Diekevers scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off of a corner kick from Gabby Scholten and found the net four times in Davenport's final five matches of the season. Her score on Tuesday gave her 13 career goals which is good for sole possession of ninth place in the program's career record book. For Scholten, that helper was her second of the fall and third of her career.

For the match, the Cardinals out-shot the Panthers, 27-11, while the shots on goal category was even, 8-8. For Davenport, those 11 shots came from five different players including Diekevers (4 shots, 3 shots on goal), Citlali Luna (3 shots, 2 shots on goal), Kandis Orns (2 shots, 1 shot on goal), Kathryn Hoeger (1 shot on goal), and Medina Hindic (1 shot on goal).

In goal, Gabriana Bennecke made six saves on eight shots faced.
