Sanders gets first win at UMSL

DU snapped a 20-game regular season road losing streak

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The fourth quarter yesterday proved to be the difference as Davenport dropped their opener at Maryville. The script was flipped on Saturday as the fourth quarter again was the factor but the Panthers outscored the Tritons 22-9 in a 62-55 victory over Missouri-St. Louis. DU snapped a 20-game regular season road losing streak in the process and got their first win under head coach Shonda Sanders.

Davenport moved to 1-1 overall and beat the Tritons for the second time in five meetings. Freshman Ellie Toney scored a team-high 17 points in 34 minutes and stayed out of foul trouble after playing just 18 minutes in yesterday's loss. Toney shot 6-of-11 from the floor including 3-of-5 from the arc. She grabbed three rebounds and had two steals. Lillee Gustafson played 30 minutes and went 5-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 at the charity stripe for a total of 16 points. She grabbed eight boards and also had two steals.

Scout Nelson came off the bench and scored eight points in 22 minutes. She was 2-of-3 from the floor and 4-of-5 at the free throw line. The Panthers got to the line and were 15-of-20 after attempting just five free throws yesterday. The team also cut down on their turnovers with 16 for the game.

Davenport did a good job of converting UMSL turnovers into points. DU scored 31 points off turnovers compared to 14 for the Tritons.
