Panthers still dancing after 3-0 win over No. 15 Parkside in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals

Eoin Broughan had two goals and assisted on the other goal to pace the Panthers

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - In one of the best performances of the season, the Davenport men's soccer team shutout No. 15 Parkside 3-0 on the neutral site of Braddock Field on the campus of Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals. The No. 4 Cardinals earlier in the day beat Purdue Northwest 2-0 to set up Sunday's final against Davenport.

The Panthers handed the Rangers their worst loss of the season and just their third loss overall (10-3-4). Eoin Broughan was named First Team All-GLIAC yesterday and played every bit of that distinction in the semifinals with two goals and one assist. It was the fourth shutout by the Panthers against their opponent this season including two of the last three matches. The win also snapped a four-match losing streak against the Rangers and avenged last year's loss to them in the GLIAC Tournament final.

Broughan scored in the 14th minute with an assist to Matt Whelan. Whelan played a ball near midfield on the right side into the middle about 25 yards where Broughan ran between a few defenders to get to the ball first. He finished to the lower right corner for his fourth goal of the season.

The match was delayed 30 minutes due to weather in the area around the 38th minute mark and the teams went into the locker room at halftime with DU leading 1-0. DU had nine shots compared to five for the Rangers in the first 45 minutes.

George Deveau made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute as Broughan had a pass from right wing into the box and Deveau left his feet and volleyed the ball in the air to the lower left corner for his fourth goal of the season. The Panthers kept up the pressure and made it 3-0 in the 56th minute. Joseph Renner and Matt Whelan both had great headers to advance the ball past midfield with Whelan's hitting Justice Sikkema in stride down the middle of the field. He carried the play into the box and Broughan hustled down the left side to receive the ball on a 2-on-1 against the goalkeeper. Sikkema delivered a pass to Broughan who finished the play with ease.

Davenport had a 7-4 edge in shots on goal for the match. Shane Marinkovich made four saves in net to earn the shutout.
