Women's Ice Hockey

Panthers stifled by Wolverines

The women's hockey team was back on the ice for the first time since Dec. 11 after three different series were canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. The Michigan Wolverines ACHA program was not a friendly opponent as they took both games of the weekend series and did not allow a Davenport goal. UM won 5-0 in Grand Rapids on Friday and then won 6-0 on Saturday in Ann Arbor.

Davenport dressed just nine skaters and two goaltenders and the Wolverines with a full squad took advantage. Michigan got two goals by Erin Proctor coming in the first and third periods. Megan Mathews, Samantha Kroon, and Anna Thomas also scored for UM. They had three goals in the third period to pull away from the Panthers. UM outshot DU, 48-14, for the contest. Julia Gaynor made 43 saves between the pipes for Davenport.

The teams played at Yost Ice Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan on Saturday. Proctor and Mathews scored again in this one as the Wolverines scored three goals in the first period and then three more in the third period. Mariah Evans (2 goals), Jessica Simmer, and Ava Gargiulo each scored for the Maize and Blue. UM held a 45-11 advantage in shots on net. Dayna Templeton made 39 saves for DU in net.
