Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Panthers earn two wins in afternoon sessions

DU beat Rose-Hulman and Findlay with split squads

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport men's tennis team had a rare opportunity to play different opponents at the same time on Tuesday allowing an experience in which nearly all of the rostered players could see action. The Panthers beat NCAA DIII Rose-Hulman 6-3 and Findlay 5-2 to improve to 11-0 this season.

The Rose-Hulman match saw some players gain valuable experience in a dual setting and they came away with the win. The Fightin' Engineers won two of the three doubles in a format where every match counted towards the team score. Max Dion and Bobby Tarrant at three doubles got a win over Lawson McCloskey and Rhian Seneviratne 8-7 (7-5).

The Panthers would make their mark in singles with five of six going their way. Jose Brenes competed at two singles and won easily 6-0, 6-1 over Mark Slaninka. Maxim Drinchich went head-to-head with Owen Reynolds at three singles and won 6-2, 6-4. Bennet Dozeman at four singles won in straight sets over Grant Paradowski (6-4, 6-1). Marius Pion at five singles won 6-3, 6-2 against Seneviratne. Tarrant at six singles picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Corey Pollard.

The other half of the Panthers battled with Findlay and won 5-2 against the Oilers. It was the first meeting on the courts between the schools. The doubles format was two of three wins earned one point. The Oilers earned that point at number two and three doubles. Quintan van Wijk and Joel Mast lost for the first time together this season, 6-3, against Luigi Bove and Dallas Ramsey. Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and Jonathan Bulmer had no trouble with a 6-1 win at one doubles against Wilfredo Lara and Alfredo Berlanga.

In the singles portion, DU got five wins out of the six matches to pull out yet another victory. The four and five singles proved drama as Mast and Daniil Khitrou both dropped the first set and rallied to win the next two. Mast beat Andrew Codita 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 and Khitrou beat Ramsey by scores of 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
