ALLENDALE, Mich. - No. 6 Grand Valley State defeated Davenport 5-1 on Friday night, but the Panthers scored against the Lakers for the first time ever thanks to
Sarah Possett's second goal of the season in the 78th minute. Next up on the schedule for DU is a trip to No. 22 Northern Michigan in a week with the opening kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. in Marquette.
Prior to Friday, Possett had faced the Lakers twice in her career, back in 2019, neither match of which she was able to get a shot off. Fast forward to Sept. 30, 2022 and the redshirt junior from Middleville scored on the only shot she took. Davenport's five other shots came from
Natalia Casiello (2 shots, 1 shot on goal),
Gabby Scholten (1 shot on goal),
Kandis Orns (1 shot), and
Citlali Luna (1 shot).
In goal,
Gabriana Bennecke made five saves, one off her season high, on 21 shots faced, her most of the season.
Davenport fell to 3-4-4 overall, 2-2-3 in GLIAC play and will continue this three-match road trip next week. Those three road matches in a row tie the season long set by the three to begin the season.
