BYRON CENTER, Mich. - The women's hockey team have waited a long time to taste victory and did just that on Friday night with a 2-1 win at Aquinas. The Panthers improved to 1-4 overall this season and won for the first time since Oct. 29, 2021.
Gabby Basha got the scoring started at 18:11 left in the second period with an assist from Abby Hildebrand. The Panthers increased their lead to 2-0 at the 9:42 mark left in the third period as
Katie Anderson scored the goal which was assisted by
Abi Courtney. The Saints got within a goal just 33 seconds later as Anna Castle got the goal assisted by Alyssa Exline and McKenna Kaczor. The Saints had a power play chance with 3:14 left in the game but could not score. The Saints then took a penalty with 16 seconds left for slashing which ended their hopes of tying the contest.
Dayna Templeton made 33 saves in net for the Panthers to earn the win. Kadynce Romijn made 27 saves for the Saints in net.
