Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dykstra's two goals lead Panthers to GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals victory

Cook records second goal of his career

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University men's soccer posted a clean sheet in one of their strongest performances of the season in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals, knocking out Northern Michigan University in a 3-0 result.

The Panthers controlled the pace from start to finish, opening up the boxscore from a goal by Andrew Dykstra (15') assisted by Vitalis Takawira Jr. for Dykstra's team-leading seventh goal this year. What appeared to be another strike by DU, this time from Kirby Eggers later in the first half, was waived off by the officials and kept the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.

DU maintained their dominance in the next 45 minutes, as a substitution that brought in Josh Cook proved quite effective, the redshirt junior scoring DU's second goal just 60 seconds after entering the pitch (62') for his second career goal overall. The momentum didn't stop for the Panthers as Dykstra sealed the deal for DU with his second goal of the match just inside the 69th minute, 3-0.

Bobby Curran led the Panthers to their second shutout victory of the season with three saved tallied to advance DU to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. The Panthers will face off against Purdue Northwest on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. EST in Hammond, Ind.
