Panthers tie Parkside 1-1 on Senior Day

Scholten marks second goal of career

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team finished their last regular season home match in a 1-1 draw against Wisconsin-Parkside, closing the season series at 0-1-1 overall.

Seven Panthers were recognized ahead of the action for the annual Senior Day celebration, consisting of Gabriana Bennecke, Kathryn Hoeger, Kandis Orns, Aida Holihan, Jayden Thurmand, Julia Stidam, and Ellie Fisher.

The first and only goal of the match for DU was scored by Gabby Scholten inside of the 15th minute off a one-touch shot outside the box, silking the back of the net. The Panthers outshot the Rangers seven to six throughout the first 45 minutes as the halftime scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of DU.

Bailey Gauthier made her fourth start of the year inside the nets for Davenport, tallying five saves in the first half to bring her season tally to 15 overall. Bennecke started and played the entire second half for her 11th match played this season. The Panthers strung together solid defense in the first 25 minutes until a miscue allowed Parkside to send a cross over the box and allowed Emily Mikkelson to level the match, 1-1 (70').

DU fought hard to regain the lead with seven shots attempted, three on net, but the Rangers held strong to close the match in DU's sixth tie of the year (5-5-6, 2-5-6 GLIAC).

Moving up to No. 5 in the GLIAC standings, the Panthers face Grand Valley State in a pivotal match on the road in the final regular season match for the year.
