ROCKFORD, Mich. – The Davenport men's tennis team found themselves in a tight one on Saturday afternoon and in need of someone to seize the moment. The match was hinged on the No. 5 singles match for the clinching point.
Simone Pacciolla dropped the first set 6-3 but dug deep for a 6-2 and 10-7 tiebreaker over Jose Oliva to give DU a 4-3 win over Cornerstone.
The singles featured five of the six going three sets. Davenport got wins from
Joel Mast at No. 1 singles over Santiago Castellanos (7-6, 4-6, 11-9) and
Subash Paramasivam at No. 4 singles over Joaquin Micheloni (6-1, 6-7, 11-9).
Jose Brenes at No. 6 singles had the straight sets win over Alejandro Santana (6-4, 6-3).
The doubles point belonged to the Golden Eagles as they won all three matches. The No. 1 match featured Paramasivam and
Jan Stolin went the distance before falling 7-6 (7-4).
