Panthers shutout SVSU in commanding 2-0 victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Controlling the pace of the match throughout, the Davenport University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout against Saginaw Valley State to mark their second conference victory of the year.

The Panthers applied pressure against the Cardinals from the opening kickoff and never let up, holding SVSU to just one shot attempt throughout the first 45 minutes compared to DU's 14 (eight on goal). DU tallied their first goal just seconds past the 20-minute mark, Cam Power sending a shot that bent down into the bottom left of the net off an assist from Vitalis Takawira Jr., 1-0.

SVSU's lone shot of the half came a few minutes later but was prevented by Bobby Curran, his first of three saves for the match. DU would respond to their first goal at the 32-minute mark, consisting of Andrew Dykstra capitalizing on a lone run toward the attacking third and sending a shot into the right corner of the goal to put the Panthers in a commanding position, 2-0, finishing the scoring for the match.

Three shots on target (SVSU with two and DU with one) would highlight the second half as the Panthers' defense prevented the Cardinals from capitalizing on their two shot-on-goal attempts to complete their first shutout win of the season.
