GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The battle between Davenport and Grand Valley State had been one-sided over the last six meetings, but the Panthers stood their ground on Friday night and snapped a six-game losing streak against the No. 7 Lakers with a 3-1 win. The Panthers improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 at Patterson Ice Center this season.
Davenport played solid team defense against the Lakers all game and got two first-period goals to set the tone.
Brendan Bauer scored his sixth goal of the season at 5:07 from
Jonathan Dubbink and
Aden Saworski.
Robert McLaughlin made it 2-0 at the 12:21 mark on the power play with assists from
Peter Stojcevski and
Taber Gutschick.
McLaughlin had the only goal of the second period to give DU a 3-0 lead. He scored at 5:32 with Saworski and
Ryan Blackburn getting the assists. The Lakers were able to get on the board at 5:31 of the third period as Zach Borchardt scored a power play goal unassisted for his fifth goal of the season.
Nathan Gauthier stopped 32 shots in net and was in the zone throughout. Devin Naidow gave up the first two goals in net for GVSU and was pulled for Adrian Morales. He finished the final 40 minutes and stopped 20 shots.
