• The regular season finale has a lot riding on it as No. 16 Davenport travels to No. 2 Grand Valley State in a West Michigan showdown on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Panthers are looking to get a share of their first GLIAC championship and a coveted spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Lakers are hoping to win the outright GLIAC title for the second straight season and improve their seeding in the upcoming playoffs. The Panthers are going to need to rebound after their first loss of the season last week against Ferris State. The Bulldogs used a big second half en route to the 28-10 decision. FSU outscored DU 21-0 in the second half and were aided by a 100-yard kickoff return and 15-yard interception return. Davenport led 10-7 at halftime after a Myren Harris 21-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter and a Brandon Gielow 42-yard field goal with two seconds left until halftime. The Bulldogs clamped down on defense in the final 30 minutes as Davenport managed 163 yards and were 0-of-5 on third down conversions. DU also committed three turnovers in five possessions in the second half. The Lakers had no trouble on the road with a 66-10 win over Wayne State. It was their second-highest point total of the season and they led 49-0 at one point in the third quarter after a Kyle Nott 81-yard punt return. Cade Peterson was 10-of-11 for 136 yards and three scores.
• The Panthers are looking for their first win against Grand Valley State entering their sixth matchup. This is the fourth game played in Allendale and the Panthers will need to find a way to move the ball and put points on the board. They are averaging 5.6 points per game in the previous five meetings and have been shutout twice in 2017 and 2021. The Panthers yielded the most points to a Laker team in last year's finale in Caledonia (49-7). GVSU held a 417-309 edge in total yards and rushed for 263 yards compared to 115 for Davenport. The Lakers were the top-ranked team in Division II while the Panthers were ranked 18th entering the contest. Peterson completed 8-of-13 passes for 154 yards and two scores. Jason Whittaker went 19-of-38 through the air for 187 yards. DU's touchdown came at 4:24 of the third quarter on a Caleef Jenkins one-yard scoring run.

• Davenport is ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II Super Region Three this week. The regional rankings are announced every Monday through the end of the regular season. The top seven teams will then advance to the NCAA playoffs. DU was one of three teams in the region that lost for the first time this season. This week's order of the top eight goes Harding (10-0), Grand Valley State (8-1), Pittsburg State (9-1), Central Missouri (9-1), Ferris State (7-1), Ouchita Baptist (9-1), Missouri Western (8-2), and Davenport (8-1). All records are based on Division II opponents.
• Myren Harris is trying to become the first 1,000-yard single-season rusher in school history and needs 52 yards to reach that mark. He already in just one season at DU is third all-time in rushing yards behind William Gist (1,053) and current teammate Caleef Jenkins (1,106). Harris will likely become a three-time all-conference selection at season's end. He ranks first in the GLIAC in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. 
• Jason Whittaker is already the school's all-time leader in pass attempts (594), pass completions (324), passing yards (4,104) and passing touchdowns (40). This season, he currently ranks third in completion percentage (55.6), second in passing efficiency (127.9), second in passing touchdowns (14), and first in passing yards (1,812).
• Preston Smith recently became the third receiver at Davenport to go over 1,000 career receiving yards. He sits at 1,036 which is second all-time behind Nate Couturier (1,815). He is also third in receptions (74) and second in receiving touchdowns (12).
• Austin Alward has also etched his name into the school record book on defense. He is tied for eighth all-time with 113 tackles and is third with 35 tackles for loss. He is 4.5 shy of the top spot. He recently became the all-time sack leader at DU with 16 passing Brendan Boman (15.5). This season, he ranks ninth in the GLIAC in tackles for loss per game.
• DU this season has outscored their opponents 61-3 in the first quarter.
