• Davenport and William Jewell will meet on the gridiron for the first time this Saturday with a noon kickoff scheduled in Caledonia at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. Both teams are coming off a bye week on September 16 and should be fully rested for this in-region battle featuring the GLIAC and GLVC. The Panthers took care of Bowie State 24-19 back on September 9 in their last outing. Davenport held a 17-6 halftime lead and needed to hold on during the Bulldogs' final possession. Amir Jenkins was intercepted by DU's Chris Thompson in the end zone on 1st-and-10 from the DU 12-yard line with 22 seconds remaining. Davenport caused five turnovers in the game including four interceptions to tie the single-game school record. Christian Jones, Tyee Martin, and Darius Lynaum also had interceptions with Martin having a one-handed, highlight-reel grab at his own one-yard line in the first quarter. Jones finished with seven tackles, while Martin recorded four tackles. Myren Harris had a big day on the ground for the Panthers with 16 carries for 136 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown which proved to be the winning score. Jason Whittaker threw for 164 yards and a first-quarter score to Preston Smith from 65 yards. Bowie State finished with 413 total yards, but had to run 89 offensive plays to do it (4.6 yards per play). William Jewell is coming off a 41-34 loss at home against Kentucky Wesleyan back on September 9. The Cardinals came out flying as CJ Ward hit Deldrionn Amos on an 86-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan took a 20-10 lead into halftime, but William Jewell would eventually tie the game at 34 with 1:18 to play. KWC would score the back-breaking touchdown just three plays later as Christian Arrambide connected with Camden Williams on a 78-yard touchdown for the winning score with 33 seconds left. Arrambide threw for 499 yards and five touchdowns on just 20 completions. Ward completed 19-of-32 for 339 yards and two scores for WJC. Keaundre McCullough rushed 20 times for 137 yards and a score. Amos finished with five grabs for 141 yards and a score. Javion Macias led the Cardinal defense with nine tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss and one blocked kick.

• Linebacker Julius Wilkerson was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for week two. He played a major role in DU's 24-19 win over Bowie State to improve to 2-0. He had a game-high 17 tackles in just his second game with the Panthers after transferring from Wayne State. The 17 tackles is third best in school history and became the first player with 15-plus tackles in a game since Jalen Robinson had 15 against Grand Valley State in November 2021. Wilkerson played over 80 snaps at linebacker and had nine solo tackles primarily in the short passing game by Bowie State and also recovered a fumble at the DU seven-yard line on Bowie State's opening drive. Wilkerson is currently leading the GLIAC in tackles with 11.5 per game through two contests.

• The Panthers have been able to create turnovers at a high rate through two games and are currently leading NCAA Division II in turnover margin. They are plus-8 with six interceptions and two fumble recoveries. They have yet to turn the ball over in 131 plays on offense and are averaging 5.4 yards per play. The defense has six different players with one interception for the season and rank ninth in NCAA Division II in total interceptions.
• Running back Myren Harris has made a big impact this season. He currently ranks third in the GLIAC with 121.5 all-purpose yards per game. He also leads the conference with 6.97 yards per carry. He ranks 16th nationally and first in the GLIAC with an average of 108 rushing yards per game.
• The Panther offense will need to solve their second half productivity as they have scored 14 points through the first two games after halftime. The team did have 342 total yards against Bowie State, however they had just 112 yards in the second half and 75 of those came on their touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.
• The offensive line has provided a solid pass protection around Whittaker yielding just one sack for a loss of 14 yards during the first two games. They rank second in the GLIAC and 10th nationally in this category.
• The Panthers have gotten off to fast starts in the first half this season outscoring their opponents 41-6 in the opening 30 minutes. They have not allowed a first-quarter point in the process.
• Davenport has adopted a bend but don't break attitude inside the red zone this season. The opponent is just 3-of-9 scoring touchdowns inside the 20-yard line and have scored on 6-of-9 possessions.
• In a close game like the one against Bowie State, special teams play a major part in winning or losing. Kyle Wojahn had a very good game punting the ball with seven attempts and an average of 41.7 yards per boot. He also pinned two of those punts inside the 20-yard line.
• Jeremiah Jackson had a breakout game against Bowie State for the Panthers at defensive end. He finished with eight tackles including 2.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards. He also broke up a pass and had a half sack.
